Software can handle all types of drives and flash memories like: HDD, SSD, SAS, USB, SD Card etc. Not all of the listed devices have the same process of erasing. WHY NOT JUST DELETE FILES FROM THE DEVICE
DELETING
Deleting files from the medium only removes the path to the data. Operating system will not see any files but it will be fully recoverable by recovery software. The files will be intact and easy to recover and read until it will be overwritten by another data.
ERASING
